Our favourite Edinburgh markets

Posted by James McHardy

Like a lot of people we're big fans of markets! Edinburgh's rich & varied history means you are likely to find a massive range of unique and quirky products and and gorgeous artisan and homemade foods. Here is a list of our favs:

Stockbridge Market

Started in 2011 and situated in the Jubilee Gardens on the banks of the Water of Leith Stockbridge Market (pictured) was one of the first of the modern weekend markets. As well as a collection of local crafters you will find a massive range of stunning food from fresh fish to melting marshmallows and even a few gourmet dog treats and if you fancy a cuppa you are well served by Steampunk Coffee if you haven't popped into their cafe in North Berwick you're missing out! Do allow plenty of time though as the queue for food can often reflect just how amazing the food is.

Grassmarket Market

Sister market of Stockbridge. Normally doesn't have quite the range of stalls as Stockbridge but has equally high quality from around 20 traders and with it being on Saturday doesn't mean you have to try run from one to the other on the same day!

There's a new sister joining the ranks on April 15th in Fountainbridge we'll be popping down to check that out too.

Out Of The Blue Flea Market

When we first moved to Edinburgh we lived in a lovely little apartment on Dalmeny St and Out Of The Blue was just across the road if we hadn't we probably wouldn't have found out about this little gem as its not somewhere you hear of as often. OOTB is based in an old B-listed Drill Hall originally built for the Royal Scots Regiment which they have transformed into a center for local and artistic communities and once a month a pretty large flea market. 45+ stalls selling all manner of furniture, jewellery, clothing, books etc as well as a little the Drill Hall Arts Cafe that has lots of little treats to have with your tea.

Royal Mile Market

We pop into here pretty much every time we are in town. Based in 17th Century Tron Kirk Church its a chance to pop into somewhere that hasn't been open since the 50s! Its such a gorgeous building and its great to see it being used again and even better thats its being as an all week market! Its full of small local designers and you won't see this stuff many other places so you really get the chance to pick up something different.
